Coffee Ice Cubes - make your Starbucks at home

Writer: Zoe RustonZoe Ruston

I love iced coffee, like really love it, but I don't love the price. With everything costing more and more at the moment I'm all for saving a little money where I can, and making my own iced coffee at home is a good place to start!

So what do you need? I'll link my favourites below

  • Instant coffee 2 tsp

  • 400ml cooled water & a splash of boiling water

  • Silicone ice cube tray

  • Measuring jug

  • Milk - I use soya, but you can use your favourite

  • Granulated sugar - I use 1tsp

  • Flavoured syrup if you wish - I like hazelnut

I love hazelnut syrup in my iced coffee but there's so many choices available, toffee, caramel, salted caramel, vanilla and many more! The skinny food co. do loads and you can usually find them in B&M aswell as most supermarkets. But hazelnut iced coffee gives me Nutella and Ferrero Rocher vibes to curb my chocolate cravings!

Start off by making your instant coffee, add 2 tsp of coffee and 1 tsp of sugar to your measuring jug, and add a splash of boiling water and stir until it's dissolved. Then add 400ml cooled water and stir. I like to leave it for a little while until it's completely cold, I'll get a little snack or fuss my little dog Pixie while I wait. Then I'll fill my ice cube tray and put it to freeze, it usually takes around 3-4 hours, so I'll often make these at night so they're ready for the morning. If you pop your ice cubes into a freezer bag they'll last up to 1 month.

I use a large silicone tray, but you can use smaller if you like.

When your ice cubes are frozen you're ready to make your iced coffee! Fill up your favourite Mason jar about 2/3 with your milk of choice, stir in a splash of syrup, drop in 1 of your coffee ice cubes and a reuseable straw and enjoy!

If you like your coffee sweeter you can use more sugar, but if you're using syrup, 1 tsp of sugar should be enough. Also, if you're using a smaller ice cube tray than me, you'll need 2 coffee ice cubes.

Prefer it a little stronger? Check out my other iced coffee recipe here

Enjoy!
